July Chromebook order arrives; distribution throughout district underway

The City School District of Albany just received 28% percent of its total Chromebook order and distribution began immediately.

The Office of Assessment, Accountability and Technology Innovation prepared the devices and delivered an allotment to all 16 academic buildings for distribution to students on Jan. 7 and 8.

Families are being notified when one of the 1,360 new Chromebooks are available for pickup. No date has been provided for the arrival of the remaining 3,500 Chromebooks in the district’s order but as soon as they are here, every district student, prekindergarten to grade 12, will receive a device.

“We are anxiously awaiting the next round of Chromebook deliveries as we know there are still families in need but we are incredibly pleased to be able to get this first round into our students’ hands,” said the district’s Technology Director, John Wyld.

Pictures of families receiving the new technology, at Sheridan Preparatory Academy and Albany High School, can be found here.

On March 22, 2020 (one week into the pandemic), the district submitted an Emergency Smart School Investment Plan to New York State. On July 31, the district received state approval for the plan and placed an order for close to 4,000 Chromebooks the same day.
