Due to the significant rise in new COVID-19 cases among City School District of Albany employees and students, as of April 28, the district is strongly encouraging everyone to wear masks inside all buildings.
Mask-wearing indoors remains optional in New York. However, the Albany County Health Department issued a public health advisory on April 25 strongly recommending all residents to wear masks in indoor public spaces. The district is aligning with that recommendation during the current COVID-19 surge.
If your child has COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are mild or seem unrelated to COVID-19, please do not send your child to school.
COVID-19 symptoms are: fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way
Your child should stay home until they have a negative COVID-19 test, or no symptoms for 72 hours, no fever greater than 100.4F without fever-reducing medication, and no cough or shortness of breath.
A written note from the medical provider is required stating that the child is having unchanged symptoms of a chronic condition and does not need a COVID-19 test.
Our COVID-19 quarantine period is currently five days in most cases in accordance with local and federal recommendations.
Visit our quarantine protocols page for more information.
Weekly COVID-19 testing is mandatory for all unvaccinated district employees.
Visit our testing for unvaccinated employees page for more information.
In addition to our general guidance for students and employees, we have also developed specific guidance for student-athletes regarding COVID-19.
Visit our exposure protocols page for more information on what to do if your child has been exposed to COVID-19 at school.
