Volleyball victory more than just a win

Albany High School's varsity volleyball team.

On Saturday the varsity volleyball team placed first in a tournament of eight teams at Ravena Coeymans Selkirk (RCS) High School.

The Falcons defeted Queensbury High School in the semifinals and then Bethlehem High School in a very close finals match.

The tournament win was bittersweet, however. The goal of the regional competition is to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of former RCS player Seana Hazelton, who passed away in 2005, and Tony Clarrk, an Albany High School hall monitor and avid Falcon volleyball supporter, who passed away in 2018.

Clarrk battled Leukemia for 16 years and underwent two stem cell transplants. His daughter is the varsity volleyball coach at RCS.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society donation, comprised of proceeds from the tournament, will be made in the name of the winning team from the tournament - Albany High School.
