Phenomenal season ends in OT thriller for girls' basketball

A phenomenal season came to a disappointing end Sunday night for the Albany High School girls’ basketball team in a 62-60 overtime loss to Cicero-North Syracuse in the Class AA state quarterfinals at Hudson Valley Community College.

Junior Shonyae Edmonds led the Falcons (18-7) with 23 points, 14 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals. Classmate Me’Challe Cancer had 14 points and seven boards, and ninth-grader Azera Gates had 17 points, four assists and three steals. 

Congratulations to coach Decky Lawson and all of the team’s student-athletes on an incredible year, including the first Section 2 title since 2013 and a No. 15 state ranking.
