Falcon shines on court at state tennis championship

Surisawai warms up before a home tennis match against Guilderland.

For the second year in a row, Masami Surisawa competed at the New York State boys' tennis tournament, played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, on Friday.

The Albany High School junior, and Section 2 champion, played an impressive first-round match with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Surisawa faced Section 1 Champion, Callum Markowitz of White Plains and one of the top high school tennis players in the state, in his second-round match. Despite an impressive performance, Surisawa ultimately lost to Markowitz 6-2, 6-1.

"Masami represented Section 2 like the champion he is and played at the highest level. He put it all on the line. I know great things are in the future for him and this is just another chapter in his growth as a supreme tennis player," said the Falcons' head coach, Anthony Omoragbon.

Markowitz went on to place fifth in the state.
