Giffen bids Jasmine Brown a fond farewell

Students and staff cheer as student hugs principal

Jasmine Brown is NOT saying goodbye to Giffen Memorial Elementary School.

The beloved principal – who leaves Giffen to be the school district’s new assistant superintendent for elementary instruction starting Jan. 2 – was visibly moved Thursday as she was “clapped out” by cheering students, parents and colleagues.

Brown’s mother, sister and husband also were on hand for the event, where an astonished Brown was enthusiastically (and sometimes tearfully) greeted by the entire school community as she walked through one of Giffen’s main hallways.

She said she will see her Giffen family again soon.

Check out a Facebook photo album from the clap-out. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)
