Breaking ground on a new city pool

Cheering students surround the mayor, who's speaking at a podium

The student leaders at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST) teamed up Wednesday with Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter and local and state officials to break ground on a new Lincoln Park pool.

The new pool will be located at the site of the old pool, just down the hill from TOAST. Best of all, Albany residents will get to swim for free!

Plans call for the new pool to open on July 4, 2025.

Check out a Facebook photo album from Wednesday's ceremony. (You don't need a Facebook account to see the photos linked in the highlighted text. A window may appear that says, "To see more from Albany City Schools on Facebook, log on or create an account,” but you can dismiss it by clicking “not now.”)

The pool area will consist of a 10,000-square foot walk-in pool (no stairs or ladders). It also will include a 10-lane lap pool, a splash pad, a water slide and half-sized Olympic lap pool. The historic 1930s-era bathhouse next to the pool is being renovated, as well.
