Six members of the Albany High School boys' track and field team have qualified to compete at the state championships June 13-14 in Middletown. Congratulations to Noah Bizer, Rohan Edwards-Grant, Adam Elia, Samir Gardner, Daaron Harrell and Nasief Smith!

Our Falcons will participate in the following events:

  • Bizer: 800 meters
  • Edwards-Grant: 100 meters, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay
  • Elia: 4x400-meter relay
  • Harrell: 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay
  • Gardner: 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, long jump
  • Smith: 4x100-meter relay

Continuing what has been a record-smashing spring for the team, Gardner made history at last weekend's state-qualifying meet at Shenendehowa by breaking a 38-year-old Albany High record in the 100. Gardner clocked an impressive 10.75 seconds, topping Gary Ramsey’s long-standing record of 10.79 set in 1987.

Edwards-Grant and Harrell also showcased thrilling performances in the 100, finishing with times of 10.81 and 10.91 seconds, respectively. These times place Edwards-Grant as the third-fastest in this event in school history and Harrell as the fourth-fastest.

Edwards-Grant continued to shine in the 200, tying the school record set by Kareem Morris in 2010 with a time of 21.76!

Bizer delighted Falcon fans with an extraordinary 800, clocking in at 1:55 to earn the top seed in Section 2 Class A.

Our 4x100 team, comprised of Gardner, Harrell, Smith and Edwards-Grant, as well as our 4x400m team of Harrell, Edwards-Grant, Elia and Smith both pre-qualified for the state competition based on their impressive performances earlier this season. The 4x100 team's winning time of 41.93 seconds at the Section 2 Championships in May is the top time in the state this year and the fourth-fastest in Section 2 history.

Gardner also pre-qualified in long jump prior to last weekend's state qualifiers. During the indoor season last winter, he finished second in the event at states.

The Falcons now are off to the New York State Championship in Middletown. Tickets are available on the GoFan website.
