Falcons shine at national competition

Halladeen, Gish, Steuer and Niragire-Sengabo at the national conference

Four Albany High School students finished in the medals earlier this month at the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Leadership Conference in Florida.

Matilda Gish, Sarah Niragire-Sengabo and Olivia Steuer earned the National Silver Medal Award and Deavony Halladeen earned a National Bronze Medal Award for their innovative projects. Each earned the opportunity to compete at the national level after placing in the top two in their category in the Students Take Action with Recognition (STAR) events at the state FCCLA conference in March.

Featuring projects created in their Career and Technical Education class "Careers in Health and Human Services," taught by Kris Foote, Ph.D., our Falcons showcased their creative ideas on how to bring positive change that will impact families, careers or communities.

  • Gish presented "Remove Body Mass Index (BMI) and Replace with Relative Muscle Index (RMI) AND Body Roundness Indicator (BRI) - To Have a Fuller Picture of Your Body Composition and Fitness," in the Professional Presentation Level 3 STAR event.
  • Halladeen presented "Impact of Interpersonal Communication on Deaf Communities," in the Interpersonal Communication Level 3 STAR event.
  • Steuer presented "AI Can Be Used in the Field of Psychotherapy and Broaden the Access to Treatment," in the Professional Presentation Level 3 STAR event.
  • Niragire-Sengabo presented "Proposed Creation of Revive Wellness Studios - A Mental Health Facility Targeted Toward the Younger Generation," in the Entrepreneurship Level 2 STAR event.

We salute our students for their terrific work, and extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported their participation in the national conference to help make this memorable opportunity possible.

Congratulations on a job well done!
