The City School District has learned that there is not one, not two but three of our students in the running in Albany County's "I Voted" 2025 sticker campaign. The winning design will be printed and handed out at the polls in 2025-26. The sticker at right was the 2024 winner.
The friendly competition - sponsored by the Albany County Legislature, Albany County Board of Elections, League of Women Voters of Albany County, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) - is an effort to inspire youth participation in, and excitement about, the democratic process. We are so proud that three of the finalists are district students!
Edward Gargiulo created his submission (on left) with Google Slides - a valuable skill he learned from Susannah Doyle-Sheehan and Meghan Bowers, his third-grade teachers at Albany School of Humanities. Edward's sticker is entry #3 on the county web page and incorporates the New York State and United States flag plus his rendition of a ballot box.
Alisa Sunday's, who will be a second grader at Roots Academy at West Hill in September, submission (on right) stands out for its patriotic red, white and blue color scheme plus the words "I voted" (in wonderful penmanship for such a young student) against the back-drop of an American flag. Alisa's sticker is entry #4 on the county's web page.
The district shared news of Montessori Magnet School student Annie Morton's submission earlier this month.
Voting closes Aug. 29 - good luck to our three creative students who understand, at a young age, that voting is a fundamental right and an essential part of being an engaged citizen.
