Our beautiful new culinary space was bustling on Thursday evening as staff, community members, family and friends sampled delicious chilis prepared by our Culinary II and Culinary III students at our annual Albany High Chili Cookoff!
In the weeks leading up to the event, our students paired up and collaborated together to create a chili recipe that would win the most votes! With the support of guiding teacher Lisa Valentine, students re-worked and fine-tuned their recipes, learning valuable lessons about how different types of ingredients come together to create a crowd-pleasing dish!
After tallying the votes, we are thrilled to announce this year's winners. Our teams were so competitive that we had a two-way tie for both first place and second place!
First place:
- Katerine Barros, Culinary II & KLana Hinds, Culinary II
- Olivia Del Moor, Culinary III & Asia Green, Culinary III
Second place:
- Delee Ford, Culinary III & Melissa Richardson, Culinary III
- Janaya Burgos-Campbell, Culinary III & Angelica Diaz, Culinary II
Third place:
- Justin Adams, Culinary III & Nasief Smith, Culinary III
The funds raised through this event will support our culinary program and student participation in SkillsUSA, a workforce development organization that empowers students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members.
Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who came to support!
