Nothing makes your heart beat a little faster like a student who brings a unique, interdisciplinary project to life!
Inspired by the stunning new health sciences classrooms completed in the final phase of Albany High's construction, senior Edward "E.J." Verhoff decided to create a large-scale stethoscope to add color and vibrancy to one of the classroom walls.
Using everyday materials like rope, duct tape, paint and Styrofoam, Verhoff crafted the stethoscope. Health Science teacher Cynthia Blake collaborated with him, engaging her own creative side to make paper mache letters that read "Health Science" to display alongside the stethoscope.
"We got this big empty new room, and we wanted to make it look nice," Verhoff explained. "I got to combine two things I really love."
Verhoff is enrolled in our certified nursing program at Albany High and plans to pursue a nursing career post-graduation. Alongside his career and technical education, Verhoff has honed his artistic talents through various fine arts classes, including Studio in Crafts and Advanced Studio in Crafts. He is currently taking Advanced Placement 3D Design with art teacher Ashleigh Harris Johns.
By combining his scientific acumen with his enthusiasm for the arts, Verhoff will surely be destined for a future marked with great success!
