Albany High band teacher John Halvorsen is one of 10 local finalists for the prestigious Manilow Music Teacher Award, to be presented at Barry Manilow's April 2 concert at the MVP Arena!

The award winner, chosen through public voting, will be honored onstage at Manilow's farewell performance and will receive a $5,000 cash prize along with a $5,000 grant for purchasing classroom instruments.
With 20 years in our schools, including over 15 at Albany High, Halvorsen's unwavering dedication has been a cornerstone of our incredible music education program.
Currently, he teaches symphonic band, wind ensemble and intermediate/advanced jazz improvisation at Albany High. Additionally, he directs the pit orchestra for the Albany High Theater Ensemble productions.
Throughout his career, Halvorsen has opened countless doors of opportunity for our students, and we are thrilled to see him nominated for this well-deserved recognition.
