Girls’ basketball powers into Class AAA semis

Akarri Gaddy in action on the court

Akarri Gaddy scored 28 points to power the Albany High School girls’ basketball team to a resounding 71-48 win over Saratoga Springs in the Section 2 Class AAA quarterfinals at The Nest on Wednesday night.

The Falcons raced to a 10-0 lead to start the game and then blew it open in the second half, turning a 34-24 halftime lead into a 53-35 advantage after three quarters. Gaddy, a senior, scored 15 points in the second half to help the Falcons pull away.

Janae Byrams contributed 10 points to the victory.

Fourth-seeded Albany High (14-7) advances to meet the Suburban Council regular-season champion and top-seeded Shaker (17-1) in the semifinals Monday night at Hudson Valley Community College. Game time Monday is 7:30 p.m. and tickets must be purchased online via the GoFan website.

The Bison, who are ranked No. 6 in the state, beat the Falcons 65-32 in December.

Congratulations to coach Decky Lawson and all of our student-athletes on Wednesday’s great win, and good luck in the next round!
