Cosmetology students style "anything but hair"

Cosmetology teacher with two students with their mannequin head projects

Cosmetology II students at Albany High had the opportunity to show off their technical skills and creativity by transforming a bald mannequin head into a piece of art using "anything but hair"

Our Falcons did not disappoint, and it was incredible to see the vast array of materials utilized to create stunning hairstyles and show-stopping make-up.

Students incorporated crayons, playing cards, bath loofahs, jumbo-weight yarn, artificial flowers, notebook paper, ribbons, Peeps marshmallows and more to demonstrate design principles they are learning in their coursework.

By working with unconventional materials, students demonstrated their ability to deliver unique and compelling looks, an important skill in the beauty industry.

In addition to completing a self-evaluation and receiving feedback from their instructor on their project, students had the chance to cast their vote for their favorite mannequin head, adding an element of fun and excitement to the experience.

Maslyn Marinez Gonzalez placed first with "Marge Simpson," Danairi Elias Figueroa placed second with "Playing Card Hat" and Mahlia Musaid placed third with "Hello Kitty."

Congratulations to our Falcons on a job well-done and kudos to cosmetology teacher Cory Nardin for facilitating a learning experience that was both whimsical and effective!
