Spirits were high as Albany High French students gathered for the final reveal of this year’s Manie Musicale winner on Monday afternoon.
Reminiscent of March Madness, Manie Musicale is a bracket-style competition for students and teachers of French that gives participants the opportunity to listen to 16 different francophone songs and then fill out a bracket to try to predict which will be the most popular.
Albany High students in French I, II, III, IV and V all filled out brackets for this year's competition, and it was energizing to see the cheers and shouts as this year's winner was revealed: Toucher La Lune by French singer-songwriter Maheva.
Prizes were distributed to students based on points scored in the competition, and we congratulate grade 9 students Arianna Denson and Ja’zai Lewis for having the top brackets at Albany High! The event was topped off with students singing karaoke to some of their new favorite francophone tunes.
With over 7,000 schools participating across the globe, Manie Musicale was an entertaining way for our Falcons to expand their cultural understanding while strengthening their language skills. Not only did they experience music from a variety of genres and countries, they also had the opportunity to listen to French being utilized in authentic and creative ways.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to French teachers, Shawna Holland and Jennifer Edson, for engaging their students in this dynamic learning experience.
