Calling all future CEOs

Students in Christopher Austen's Business Concepts & Applications class recently took a close look at business economics through JA Titan, a simulation-based program in which high school students compete as business CEOs in the phone industry.

Albany High entered 13 teams into the competition, and we congratulate seniors Kelsey Gourick-Sistrunk (left center) and Bekim Spellen (right center) for placing first in our school!

Prior to the competition, Carm Basile, the former Chief Executive Officer of CDTA, paid our students a visit to speak on the topic of entrepreneurship. With Basile's principles and guiding recommendations in mind, students paired up for the virtual competition, which took place over the course of several class periods.

During the simulation, students gained firsthand experience of how an organization makes decisions, analyzes outcomes and develops strategies moving forward. Our Falcons learned how to make financial decisions, taking into account a variety of factors related to production, marketing, research and development and corporate social responsibility.

Thank you to Joleen Hanlon and Junior Achievement for opening the doors to incredible learning opportunities in the world of business!
