Soaring at sectionals

Our Albany High boys' and girls' outdoor track and field teams soared to amazing heights as they faced off against the best of the best in Section 2 on Wednesday at Colonie High School.

Our boys' 4x100m relay team—Javanni Garland-Santana, Nyerere Young, Nasief Smith and Terrique Francis—blazed into first place with a time of 42.1 seconds! With this incredible finish, they now rank in the top five 4x100m relay teams in New York State.

Francis also claimed first place in the 100m dash with a lightening-fast time of 10.83 seconds, putting him in the top 20 in the state! 

In addition to these thrilling first place finishes, many of our Falcons placed in the top six at sectionals, earning a medal for their excellent performances. 

Boys' competition:

  • Francis placed fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.36 seconds.
  • Smith placed third in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 11 inches and sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.22 seconds.
  • Garland-Santana placed 4th in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, .5 inches.
  • Yehudah Levi placed fifth in the pentathlon with a score of 2234.
  • Saleem Ismail placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:59.12.

Girls' competition:

  • Trinity Jackson placed fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 34 feet.
  • Isabelle Blain, Kalia Poole, Yasmile Vasquez and Nyloni Smith placed sixth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 51.05 seconds.
  • Janie Hallgren, Juliana Mullin, Tess Moore and Isabella Anastasio placed sixth in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:38.71.

Our Falcons will compete at the state qualifier meet this coming week. The competition will take place at Shenendehowa High School on June 3 and 4, and tickets must be purchased via the GoFan website. The competition kicks off at 4 p.m. each day.
