Albany High students in Vincent Kemp’s Automotive Technologies II & Automotive Technologies III classes had a unique opportunity to learn about diesel vehicles by observing a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) up close and personal!
Representatives from the New York State Army National Guard facilitated an informative session with our Falcons, explaining a variety of features and how to perform preventative checks and maintenance on the HMMWV.
Students learned about the differences between a military vehicle and a civilian vehicle. For example, they noted the multiple batteries required to run the HMMWV due to its sheer weight and the tracking systems required for secure communications. Additionally, they observed the heavy-duty screws on the HMMWV designed to withstand traversing rough terrain, as well as the distinctive system of lug nuts utilized to secure the tires.
A big thank you to Sergeant Petteys, Sergeant Spencer and Sergeant Moseman for sharing their time and expertise with our students!
