The City of Albany has launched a new one-stop-shopping online tool to help families connect to the wide range of programs and opportunities available to young people during the summer.
Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter joined Mayor Dorcey Applyrs, DrPH, for the June 11 announcement at the city’s new Albany West Community Center on Livingston Avenue.
“Once again, Mayor Applyrs has demonstrated exceptional and consistent leadership in service to our families and our community,” Hochreiter said. “In conjunction with her recent announcement of the Office of Violence Prevention, this additional new online resource will be a great asset to parents and guardians as they seek out the best summer programs and activities for their children.”
The new Summer Fun in Albany online resource also will help amplify underutilized programming throughout the city, the mayor said.
“Albany has the tools to set our youth up for success,” Dr. Applyrs said. “What has been missing is a centralized way for families to find and access those resources. Today, we are taking a major step forward in filling that gap.”
The Summer Fun in Albany website features summer youth programming and events offered by the city, county, all schools located in the city (district, private, parochial and charter), faith-based organizations and community partners.
Residents can easily access information on program dates, age requirements, costs, registration information and points of contact, all in one centralized location.
“This kind of one-stop-shopping resource for summer in our city has been missing for families, and we are glad to be a partner in helping the mayor share this valuable information,” Hochreiter said.
Board of Education member Austin Wolfgang also participated in the mayor’s announcement.
“There is a lot to do in Albany if you know where to look,” Wolfgang said. “I applaud Mayor Applyrs and her team for turning the spotlight on to organizations already investing in our next generation. This new tool will unlock opportunities for our families that help make our kids smarter, safer and more prepared for the future.”
