Thanks to Albany High's Class of 1965, our Falcon artists now have a beautiful glass display case to exhibit their artwork!
When the Class of 1965 reached out to Principal Jodi Commerford about making a donation to their alma mater, she had the perfect project in mind. As our fine arts program continues to thrive here at Albany High, our students are producing pieces across a wide variety of artistic disciplines, and we are dedicated to celebrating their work within our walls and beyond.
Principal Commerford suggested that the Class of 1965 purchase a professional-grade display case to safely showcase student artwork year-round. They were thrilled to support this project, and we are so grateful for their generosity! The display case was installed this past week, along with a commemorative sign which celebrates the investment of these thoughtful alumni who chose to pour into the next generation.
Earlier this spring, Albany High hosted the Capital District Media Arts Festival, as well as our annual Create Fest, giving our fine arts department wonderful opportunities to utilize the lobby outside our auditorium balcony as a gallery space.
With the installation of this glass display case, we are moving forward with transforming this area into our "Falcon Gallery," which will serve as a year-round hub to highlight the drawings, paintings, photography, pottery, sculptures, textile work and graphic design projects that our students are producing through their coursework. We have also installed a series of three digital screens to display film and animation pieces created by our students studying media arts.
With the gorgeous stained-glass windows from the original Albany High building as a backdrop, this area of our school building is the perfect spot to bring inspiration to our school community through the fine arts.
If you would like to make a financial or in-kind donation to help showcase our student artwork in the Falcon Gallery, reach out to the Fine Arts Department Chair Kristine Monahan at kmonahan@albany.k12.ny.us for additional information.
