A day in the life: Kristen Backes and Jennifer Warnecke’s class

Visit our district Facebook page to take a look at a typical day of learning in Kristen Backes and Jennifer Warnecke’s ENL/ELA class at Albany International Center (AIC).

A part of AIC’s unique status as a transitional program for students in the early stages of learning English, Backes and Warnecke co-teach the class. Backes is the English as a New Language (ENL) teacher, and Warnecke is the English Language Arts (ELA) teacher.

The seventh and eighth graders in first period ENL/ELA spent the morning of Jan. 10 expanding their vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure in the English language. This was done by continuing an ongoing discussion of world power structures, with a particular focus on the concept of protests.
