Dear AIC Families:

I write this letter to you with great sadness. Due to funding cuts caused by the economic impact of COVID-19, the City School District of Albany is restructuring the Albany International Center and our program will not have its own building for the 2020-21 school year.

We learned of the loss of funding three weeks ago, and our Board of Education restructured the AIC program as one of several measures aimed at addressing a loss of $20 million or more in state funding.

As a result, if you have a child in grades 7-12, he or she will be enrolled in a fully virtual model, as are all other district students in those grades as a result of these budget reductions.

If you have a child in grade 6, you can choose either the fully virtual model or the fully in-person model. Families selecting the in-person model would enroll at one of the three middle schools – North Albany Middle School, Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School or William S. Hackett Middle School – based on their home address. Our staff will be reaching out to you in the coming days to discuss these options.

Please be assured that we will work with you to make this transition for your child as smooth as possible. If you have questions, please contact me at (518) 475-6900 or tgiglio@albany.k12.ny.us.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Giglio
Principal
