Dodecahedron isn’t a word most of us use in everyday conversation. But on Monday, middle-schoolers at Albany International Academy were saying it AND building one with wood and glue guns!
A dodecahedron is a three-dimensional shape with 12 flat faces (think of a 12-sided game die). With guidance from the pros at the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition, students worked in teams to design and construct their own dodecahedrons, putting their math, science and technology skills to work in a hands-on way.

Many thanks to Matt Whitbeck and Eddy Fermin of Whitbeck Construction and Nicholas Decker of Decker’s Land Solutions for sharing their expertise. And as always, thanks to our translators for helping to make this experience accessible to all.
