Albany High School students took a world view of possible responses to COVID-19 at virtual Model United Nations conference they hosted on Saturday.

Joining the Albany High students to contemplate the issues were 22 students from Guilderland High School, Shaker High School and Albany Academies.

Students assumed the roles of representatives from 14 countries in the U.N. General Assembly to formulate an international response to COVID-19; they also formed a crisis committee of New York and U.S. officials to grapple with COVID-19 in metropolitan New York City. Both groups came to consensus on resolutions on their subjects.

Albany High participants included junior Sarah Bearden, sophomore Mandy Berghela, senior Amelia Colafati (who organized the event), sophomore Ingrid Colafati, junior Edith Derosa-Purcell and sophomore Jena Rubi.

Rounding out the Albany High contingent were Model UN adviser Leah Evans, and alums Jacob Citone ’17 and Jennifer Powell ’19, who were moderators.
