Congratulations to the Albany High Mock Trial Club, which defeated the Albany Academies on Wednesday night in the first round of the virtual New York State High School Mock Trial Tournament.

The Falcon team goes to the second round in the tournament on March 4.

Albany High represented the side of the defense in the civil case of Macca Elery McClaughlin vs. Lee and Robbie McLaughlin. The case involved a daughter suing her parents for funds that they allegedly mismanaged during the time she was a minor.

Falcon defense attorneys were Zeroun Ni, Thor Hammer and Edith DeRosa-Purcell. Alternate attorneys were Ingrid Colafati, Ronan Costello and Aengus Gillespie. Falcon witnesses were Mandy Berghela, Allison O’Connor and Graham Gordon. Sarah Bearden was an alternate witness.

There are about 40 members in this year’s Mock Trial Club, and Wednesday’s event was the team’s first time competing in the state tournament.

Great job by all, and best of luck next week!
