New York Giants recognize Albany High coach

Mike Ware, football coach, oversees a preseason practice.

The New York Giants, and Gatorade, selected Albany High School football coach Mike Ware as the Lou Rettino High School Coach of the Week for Week 3.

In honor of the recognition, the Albany High football program will be awarded a $2,000 check. Ware will also receive a certificate signed by Giants coach Brian Daboll and will be a honored guest at a dinner following this season.

The 2022 season marks Ware's sixth season as head coach and his seventh consecutive season with the team.

The Falcons are 1-1 heading to Ballston Spa on Friday night. The team picked up its first win of the season, and first win since April 2021, on the road last week with a 14-0 victory at Mohonasen. That followed a well-played home opener against Troy. The Falcons led at halftime in that game before Troy rallied in the second half.

Each week during the football season the Giants select a high school head coach who demonstrates a committment towards promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes and who provides community contributions.

The Falcons' next home game is Oct. 1 against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Kickoff is at noon.

We wish coach Ware, and Falcon football, continued success after a strong start to this season.
