News of the week

  • FRIDAY – TONIGHT – The City of Albany will host its annual tree lighting featuring holiday songs by Albany High School chorus students and cookies baked by Albany High culinary students. The event will be held in Academy Park (across from City Hall) at 5 p.m.
  • Call for crew – Want to work backstage on the spring musical? There’s a lot to do! Learn more.
  • Senior portraits – Attention seniors: Get your yearbook photo taken if you haven’t already! Photographers will be at school Dec. 12-15 to take senior portraits, but you need to book an appointment. There is no cost to have a yearbook photo taken, and if you want, you can order a variety of photo packages starting at $15. Learn more and make an appointment.
  • Photo make-up day – Students in grades 9-11 will have a chance to get their yearbook photo taken (or retaken) on Wednesday, Dec. 14 during a photo make-up day. Learn more.
  • Photo pickup, grades 9-11 – If you had your pictures taken, they are now available for pickup in the main office between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Holiday Spa Day – Get beautiful in time for the holiday break! The Cosmetology Department will sponsor a Holiday Spa Day on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the salon classroom. Get two spa services for $25 or VIP services for $45. Learn more.
  • Blood drive a success – The first blood drive of the school year exceeded its goal and saved up to 121 lives! Congrats to coordinators Elyse Roepe and Jakiem Walden.   • Culinary students’ cookie frenzy – Chef Lisa Valentine’s kitchen hummed with activity Tuesday as advanced culinary students measured, mixed and baked a variety of holiday cookies to be served at the city’s Tree Lighting Ceremony. Important reminders

  • College aid help night next Thursday – Attention college-bound seniors and their families: The Guidance Office will provide families with another session of one-to-one professional assistance completing college aid forms, but you need to make an appointment at the Dec. 8 event. Learn more.
  • Europe trip info meeting next Friday – Attention students who want to travel: There will be an additional Europe trip information meeting on Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. in the library. Retired Albany High School French teacher Carol DiNovo will lead a spring trip to London, Paris and Barcelona April 7-16, during spring recess. You can sign up for the trip anytime until Dec. 18.   • Free beauty services this month for age 55 and up – Aspiring beauticians from the Cosmetology Department are offering a wealth of spa services to people age 55 and up during December in our school’s beautiful new salon classroom. Learn more.
