Falcon robotics fare well at Rochester meet

Three students tinker with the steering unit on their robot

Albany High School Robotics Team 1493 made it to the semifinals of the Finger Lakes Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at the Rochester Institute of Technology last weekend and took home an award for creativity.

The team competed alongside 54 other teams from New York, Pennsylvania, Canada and China. After two days of qualification matches, the team ranked 14th out of 54 teams. The team was selected with the fourth overall pick by team 4027 from State College, Pennsylvania. Team 1493 made it all the way to the semifinals before losing to the eventual champs.

The Falcon team was awarded the Creativity Award for their unique design of their robot, Dr. K. Team 1493’s creation is currently the second-highest cube-scoring robot in the world, and the team hopes to continue performing well in next weekend’s Tech Valley Regional at MVP Arena.
