Best Buddies' Thanksgiving bash a blast

Two students and a teacher surround the pie-eating contest winner

Albany High School Best Buddies always throw a great a party, and on Wednesday, they enthusiastically rooted for three hardy souls that engaged a Thanksgiving pie-eating contest at Abrookin Career and Technical Center.

District transition coordinator Joey DiPiazza snarfed down his eight-inch apple pie the fastest, beating out Abrookin secretary Yasmine Thompson and First Student bus driver Rashaad Turner.

The pie-eating contestants are all supporters and fans of Best Buddies, a social group where students with and without intellectual disabilities get together for friendship and fun.

Each pie consumer earned a medal, and DiPiazza also walked away with the top prize: A turkey hat.

In addition, students also enjoyed their own slice of pie, cup of cider and each other’s company.
