Our Albany High School Sgt. Henry Johnson Battalion Junior ROTC held its annual promotion and leadership awards ceremony on Monday, June 2 at the Albany High auditorium.  

The ceremony opened with a presentation of the colors by the Albany High Color Guard, and Lieutenant Colonel Michael Hutchinson, SAI shared a moving message prior to the promotions and presentation of leadership awards.


This year's award winners were:

  • Daughters of the American Colonist – Pee Eh Shee
  • Daughters of Colonial Wars – Deborah Juma
  • Order of the Purple Heart – Bekim Spellen

  • American Legion Military Excellence Award – Ywa Hai Blut
  • American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award – Amisi Juma

After the awards presentation, Sean Keefe passed along the chain of command to junior Henry Hypnarowski. Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter closed the ceremony with words of encouragement and edification for our cadets. 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the support extended to our cadets by friends, family members and various veterans groups in attendance, as well as Albany High Principal Jodi Commerford, Albany Board of Education President Sridar Chittur, Ph.D., Albany Board of Education member Vickie Smith and JROTC advisers Lieutenant Colonel Michael Hutchinson, SAI and 1st Sgt. Allen Reome, AI.
