Albany High School staff recovered a knife in the cafeteria on Tuesday after it fell to the floor while members of the school safety team were breaking up a fight.
The knife was closed when it fell to the floor and was not used during the incident. There were no injuries. A student bystander picked it up when it fell and immediately turned it over to a staff member when asked to do so.
The school put a hold-in-place in place for about 20 minutes during the incident, returning to regular security procedures at about 1:30 p.m.
The health and safety of everyone in our school community is a top priority for us. We are reviewing our security protocols to determine how the weapon entered the building, and will adjust our procedures accordingly.
