Albany High senior Kalias Bouget has been named a semifinalist in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Competition!

Bouget's tremendous score on the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT) placed him in the top 1% of the 1.3 million juniors from approximately 20,000 high schools who took the exam nationwide.

To be designated as a finalist for a scholarship, the semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application, write an essay, earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test and a recommendation from a high school official.

From over 16,000 semifinalists, more than 15,000 are expected to advance to the finalist level, and National Merit Scholarships will be awarded in the spring.

Albany High will be offering the opportunity for sophomores and juniors to take the PSAT exam on Friday, Oct. 24. The cost is $18 and students must register via this Google Form by Wednesday, Oct. 15.

We congratulate Bouget on this wonderful accomplishment and wish him the very best as he completes his senior year at Albany High!
