Students in our Albany High Night School program have created magnificent murals at the Abrookin Career and Technical Center building where they attend evening classes.
Under the guiding presence of Albany High art teacher Thea Beauchamp, night school students Raven McLean, Kimberly Santiago Montes, Guilbertito Torres Aguirre, Alize Vazquez, and Olivia Ware painted murals as part of their coursework, utilizing the techniques and skills they have been studying in class to create stunning works of art based on a subject of their choice.
Each mural is unique, ranging in themes from nature, historic landmarks, cultural heritage and abstract imagery. By crafting a mural, students moved their vision from concept to creation, leaving behind a visual testimony of the knowledge they mastered in art class.
McLean described what took place as she dove into the creation of her artwork, “I was using what my teacher has taught us about shapes and contrast and different colors―about how to mix different colors together to create variants of each color.”
The Night School program provides students with the opportunity to earn a diploma from Albany High by taking classes in the evening, opening the doors of education to students who may need an alternative option due to family obligations, employment responsibilities or unique learning needs.
Congratulations to each of these Falcon artists on a job well done!
