Five talented Falcon brass players— Freddy Lizardo, Caleb Goldstein, Eli Stanwicks, Sidney Blanken and Andrew Fish (pictured left to right)—soared all the way to Romania to perform with the Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) Wind Orchestra during spring recess!
Our Falcons, along with approximately 40 other students from Upstate New York, were invited to participate in the prestigious World Association for Symphonic Bands & Ensembles (WASBE) International Wind Band Festival with the Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) Wind Orchestra after sharing samples of their work with director Robert S. Hansbrough, Ph.D.
Rehearsals began in January, and our Falcons worked tirelessly to master the music they would perform at the festival overseas, including Romanian folk songs.
A memorable experience during the trip was working with a guest conductor who didn't speak English. Despite the language barrier, our Falcons successfully engaged the skills they have been building as student-musicians here at Albany High to perform with excellence.
