Elementary Summer Program at Giffen

Students practice math skills by playing a board game.

Hypothesizing the distance that popcorn “pops” and math-focused board games were just two of the lessons students enjoyed during the district’s Summer Elementary Program at Giffen Memorial Elementary School on Thursday.

Students in kindergarten-grade five from Arbor Hill Elementary School, Albany School of Humanities and Montessori Magnet School join peers from Giffen daily for instruction and intervention in reading and math. There is also a focus on enhancing science skills, social justice concepts and social-emotional learning.

Morning learning is led by district teachers, with afternoon enrichment provided by community partners.

Similar programming is being held at Eagle Point Elementary and Philip J. Schuyler Achievement Academy.
