April 26-27 COVID-19 cases

City School District of Albany

The City School District of Albany was notified of 41 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and Wednesday. Each person is quarantining at home.

Fourteen of these cases involve New Scotland Elementary School. All of these individuals were last in the building April 14 unless otherwise noted:

  • Two cases are associated with first grade. 
  • Four cases are associated with second grade.
  • Two cases are associated with third grade.
  • Three cases are associated with fourth grade.
  • Two cases are associated with fifth grade.
  • In the final case, the individual was last in the building April 25. 

Six cases involve Albany High School:

  • One case is associated with ninth grade. This individual was last in the building April 14.
  • One case is associated with 11th grade. This individual was last in the building April 25.
  • One case is associated with 12th grade. This individual was last in the building April 26.
  • In the three remaining cases, one individual was last in the building April 26, one April 25 and one April 14. 

Three cases involve Eagle Point Elementary School. Each individual was last in school April 14:

  • One case is associated with fourth grade. 
  • The other two are not associated with a specific grade level.

Three cases involve North Albany Middle School. One of these individuals was last in the building April 26, the other two on April 14.

Two cases involve Albany School of Humanities (ASH). One case is associated with second grade. In both cases, the individual was last in the building April 14. 

Two cases involve district offices at Harriet Gibbons Student Services Center, including one at the Essex Street offices at the rear of the building. Both individuals were last in the building April 14. 

Two cases involve Tony Clement Center for Education. In a case involving 11th grade, the individual was last in the building April 25. In the other case, the individual was last in the building April 14. 

Two cases involve William S. Hackett Middle School. One is associated with sixth grade, and one with eighth grade. Both individuals were last in the building April 14. 

One case is associated with the Albany International Center program at Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence. This individual was last in the building April 14. 

One case is associated with a prekindergarten classroom at Arbor Hill Elementary School. This individual was last in the building April 26.

One case involves a prekindergarten classroom at Delaware Community School. This individual was last in the building April 12. 

One case involves a kindergarten classroom at Giffen Memorial Elementary School. This individual was last in the building April 12. 

One case is associated with Montessori Magnet School. This individual was last in the building April 26.

One case involves Pine Hills Elementary School. This individual was last in the building April 26.

The final case involves Sheridan Preparatory Academy. This individual was last in the building April 27.

Please be reminded that schools no longer are required to quarantine individuals who in the past have been identified as contacts of a person who tests positive. We will now identify anyone within a 6-foot radius of a positive individual as having been exposed and provide notification to that individual or, in the case of a student, their parent or guardian. We will continue to report positive cases.

Health and safety procedures continue at all district buildings and on buses, including cleaning and sanitizing. We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:

1.      While masks are now optional in all school buildings in New York and, in our school district, on First Student buses that transport students, the state continues to require masks for everyone riding public transportation, which includes CDTA buses that serve our schools. The district will respect the personal decision of all individuals and families regarding wearing masks in those settings where they are now optional. 

2.      Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

3.      Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.

4.      DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:  

  • Signs of COVID-19 are fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way. 
  • Please notify your school nurse if you are keeping your child home from school with symptoms; you can find that contact information on your school’s page at www.albanyschools.org.

5.      We continue to encourage everyone 5 and older who is able and eligible to get vaccinated.
