Giffen Memorial Elementary School and New Scotland Elementary School both will dismiss early Wednesday afternoon due to continued issues with the air conditioning amid this week’s heat wave.
Please note that Giffen will hold its fifth-grade moving-up ceremony as scheduled Wednesday morning prior to the early dismissal.
Both schools will dismiss at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. There will be no after-school programs or activities at either school Wednesday.
With the heat index expected to be in the mid-90s Wednesday, we will continue to monitor the building temperatures at all of our schools. We encourage all employees and students to wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Staying hydrated also is a priority when the weather gets as hot as it has been the first part of this week.
The forecast calls for this week’s extreme heat to break Thursday. Giffen and New Scotland – and all district schools – will continue with their regular schedules for the rest of the week. That includes early dismissal for all elementary schools Thursday and Friday.
A full day of school Thursday will end the school year at the middle level ahead of Friday’s eighth-grade moving-up ceremonies.
