‘Balls from the Ball’ effort supports students during Move More Month

Two district schools are benefitting from the generosity of the Capital District.

On Tuesday, Keeler Motor Car Company delivered a variety of athletic balls to Pine Hills Elementary and Giffen Memorial Elementary on behalf of the American Heart Association. The sports equipment was collected from attendees of the 40th annual Capital Region Heart Ball on March 3 and will be used in P.E. classes and during recess at Giffen and Pine Hills.

Interim Superintendent John Yagielski and principals Tia Corniel and Jasmine Brown accepted the donation delivered to Pine Hills by Peter Connolly who serves on the American Heart Association board of directors and is a general manager with Keeler, Patrick Ryan from Keeler and Alithea Athans from the American Heart Association.

The timing of the donation is intended to coincide with April’s Move More Month. The American Heart Association recommends that children get at least 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity daily. Active kids are more likely to have improved brain function - including memory, attention, problem-solving skills and increased school attendance and performance.

“Both organizations want the very best for our children,” said Connolly.

“We also want every child to have the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong and to not miss any opportunities in life. And, we want kids to know activity can be fun!”
