Meet Giffen's new interim principal

Head shot of Dr. Kenneth Lein

Please welcome veteran administrator Kenneth Lein, Ed.D., as the new interim principal at Giffen Memorial Elementary School!

Dr. Lein officially started in this new role Tuesday, taking over while the City School District of Albany searches for a permanent replacement for Jasmine Brown, who has been promoted to serve as the district’s new assistant superintendent for elementary instruction.

You can get to know Dr. Lein at a “meet the principal” drop-in session for families after school this Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Dr. Lein began his career in the district in 2008 as principal at Montessori Magnet School. He went on to serve in administrative roles at the district level from 2013-15, and he retired in 2020 as principal of Delaware Community School.

Since his retirement, Dr. Lein has served as a substitute principal in various district schools.

He earned his bachelor’s in 1979 from the University at Albany, his master’s in 1997 from Russell Sage College and his doctorate in 2014 from Russell Sage College.
