Weekly update from Principal Paolino

NEWS

This Wednesday (March 18) will be our final early release day of the 2025-26 school year. Students will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. and staff professional development will take place for the remainder of the day.  Please note that on Wednesday, we will have a modified bell schedule.  Students will report to all nine class periods, with the exception being that class time will be reduced by several minutes per period. Please also note, there will be no school this Friday (March 20) due to district-wide Professional Development.

Music In Our Schools Month kicks off its celebration with the All-City Chorus concert on Wednesday (March 18) beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Albany High School.  Please see the full concert schedule below and consider joining us for one or all of these exciting events to celebrate music in our schools!   Performances are free and open to the public!

Registration for modified (grades 7-8) spring sports is underway! Details, including links to the required paperwork, can be found here. New in 2026 - modified girls' flag football! Please note that physicals will be offered here at Hackett on March 18, details are online now.

Looking for a summer job? Applications are now open for the City of Albany's Summer Youth Employment Program. The pay is $16 an hour and you must be 14 by March 31.

As we look ahead, we prepare for a heavy dose of testing including the 2026 New York State Assessments, Regents and Spring NWEA, beginning in just over four weeks.  (See state assessment dates below).  The next few weeks provide us with no interruptions to the learning schedule prior to the start of assessments and will play a critical role in our ability to prepare our students for a long testing period.  It is my hope that attendance will be high during this time, however, your child should bring a note following any absence and be sure to complete any missed work.

The deadline for the City School District of Albany's annual Family and Community Partnership Survey has been extended! ! The online and anonymous form only takes a few minutes to complete, and the feedback you provide will play a vital role in our school improvement efforts. If you have any questions, please contact our Office of Curriculum and Instruction at (518) 475-6060.

Our Extended Day Program takes place on Mondays through Thursdays from 3-5:30 p.m. and includes a free snack and free door-to-door bus transportation home.  Applications are available at the Attendance Desk at the main entrance and should be returned to the Main Office.  Please contact Ms. Lewis at dlewis2@albany.k12.ny.us if you have any questions.

As a reminder, please be mindful of school buses and school zone speed limits as both carry fines as much as $300 for stop-arm violations and $50 for speed violations.  For more information on stop-arm cameras on First Student buses. To read more about school zone speed limits, check out our website.
