Jan. 5 COVID-19 cases

City School District of Albany

The City School District of Albany was notified Wednesday of 67 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. All positive individuals are quarantining at home. The Albany County Health Department has identified no additional contacts with any of these cases unless otherwise noted.

As a reminder for families that have picked up or will pick up a COVID-19 test kit this week, please follow the testing guidance that you received with your kit; that information also is available at www.albanyschools.org. If your student tests positive, please be sure to report that result to the county health department using this form: https://forms.albanycounty.com/Forms/dcu8G.

Two cases involve 12th grade at Albany High School's Abrookin Career and Technical Center. Both individuals were last in school Dec. 21.

Nine cases are associated with Albany High's main campus.

  • One case involves an individual who is not associated with a particular grade and was last in school Jan. 4.
  • Two cases involve individuals who were last in school Jan. 3.
    • One individual is not associated with a particular grade.
    • One individual is associated with 10th grade. The health department identified nine additional contacts with the case; of those, seven are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Dec. 22.
  • Five cases involve individuals who were last in school Dec. 21.
    • One individual is associated with ninth grade.
    • Two individuals are associated with 10th grade.
    • Two individuals are associated with 12th grade.

Five cases are associated with Albany School of Humanities (ASH).

  • Two cases involve individuals who were last in school Jan. 4.
    • One case is not associated with a particular grade.
    • One case involves fifth grade. The health department identified 19 additional contacts with the case; of those, five are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case; one is vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • Two cases involve individuals who were last in school Dec. 21. One is associated with fourth grade and the other with fifth grade.

One case is associated with Arbor Hill Elementary School. The individual is associated with prekindergarten and was last in school Dec. 21.

Four cases are associated with Delaware Community School.

  • Three cases involve individuals who were last in school Jan. 4.
    • One case is associated with second grade. The health department identified one additional contact with the case.
    • Another case is associated with second grade. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case.
    • One case is associated with fourth grade. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Dec. 22.

Five cases are associated with Eagle Point Elementary School.

  • One case involves kindergarten, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified nine additional contacts; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves fifth grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified eight additional contacts with the case; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • Another case involves fifth grade, and the individual was also last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified nine additional contacts with the case; of those, four are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case is not associated with any grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified 10 additional contacts with the case; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case is not associated with any grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 22.

One case is associated with Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence. The individual is not associated with a particular grade and was last in school Dec. 22.

Five cases are associated with Giffen Memorial Elementary School.

  • One case involves kindergarten and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified five additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves third grade and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified no additional contacts with the case.
  • One case involves fifth grade and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified 10 additional contacts with the case; of those, seven are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves first grade and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified five additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • Another case involves first grade and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case who are both vaccinated and not required to quarantine.

Three cases are associated with Harriet Gibbons Student Services Center.

  • One individual was last in the building Jan. 3, and the health department has identified one additional contact with the case.
  • Two individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.

Two cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School.

  • One case involves first grade and the individual was last in school Jan. 5.
  • One case involves kindergarten and the individual was last in school Jan. 3.

Five cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School.

  • One case involves fourth grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department has identified five additional contacts with the case; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves second grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified four additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • Three cases involve individuals who were last in school Dec. 22. One is associated with third grade, one is associated with fourth grade and one is not associated with a particular grade.

Four cases are associated with North Albany Middle School.

  • One case involves seventh grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case.
  • One case is not associated with a particular grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4.
  • One case is not associated with a particular grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 22.
  • One case involves sixth grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 17.

Four cases are associated with Philip Schuyler Achievement Academy.

  • One case involves kindergarten, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4.  The health department identified 16 additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • Two cases involve fifth grade, and both individuals were last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified 33 additional contacts with one case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine. The health department identified 21 additional contacts with the case; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves fourth grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 21.

Two cases are associated with Pine Hills Elementary School.

  • One individual is not associated with a particular grade and was last in school Dec. 22.
  • One case involves first grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 21.

One case involves second grade at Sheridan Preparatory Academy, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified five additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.

Seven cases are associated with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School.

  • One case involves seventh grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified six additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case.
  • Another case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who also was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified two additional contacts with the case.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Jan. 3.
  • Two cases involve individuals not associated with a particular grade who were last in school Dec. 22.
  • One case involves sixth grade, and the individual was last in school Dec. 21.

One case is are associated with fourth grade at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST). The individual was last in school Dec. 21.

Six cases are associated with William S. Hackett Middle School.

  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Jan. 4.
  • One case involves an individual not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified nine additional contacts with the case; of those, seven are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves seventh grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified seven additional contacts with the case; of those, three are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves eighth grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 4. The health department identified 16 additional contacts with the case.
  • One case involves sixth grade, and the individual was last in school Jan. 3. The health department identified 13 additional contacts with the case; of those, two are vaccinated and not required to quarantine.
  • One case involves an individual who is not associated with a particular grade who was last in school Dec. 22.

Health and safety procedures at all district buildings continue to include cleaning and sanitizing. We will continue with these procedures, and also will continue to follow all required COVID-19 precautions (wearing masks inside all district buildings, hand hygiene, social distancing of 3 feet or more in all classrooms, and other precautions).

We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:

  1. Maintain social distance at all times from those you don’t live with.
  2. Always wear a mask that covers both the mouth and nose when inside at school or when your student is riding a bus to or from school.
  3. Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  4. Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
  5. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:
  • Signs of COVID-19 are: fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way.

  • In alignment with the recommendations of federal, state and local health and medical professionals, the City School District of Albany strongly encourages everyone 5 and older who is eligible and able to get a COVID-19 vaccination.
