Police investigating second social media threat at Myers

Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School put lockout procedures in place shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday as a precaution following another threatening message via social media. The school shifted to a modified lockout at about 10 a.m. and will keep those security measures in place for the rest of the school day.

District employees with proper ID and law enforcement personnel will be allowed to enter the building while the police investigation continues.

Law enforcement officials will have an increased presence on the Myers campus throughout the day Thursday. By mid-morning Thursday, the threat was not considered to be credible as police searched for the person or people responsible.

On Wednesday, police arrested and charged an individual in conjunction with that social media threat targeting Myers. Several other schools in Albany and around the Capital Region also received similar threats Wednesday. It was not immediately clear if other area schools also were targeted Thursday.
