REMINDER: new dismissal procedures

If you are picking up your student at the end of the school day at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School, please do not arrive at school before 3:15 p.m. to help us reduce the traffic congestion we are experiencing at dismissal.

We are dismissing our pickup students after 3:15 p.m. each day. The presence of vehicles before that time is causing unsafe traffic conditions and delays for our First Student and CDTA buses. We need to be sure that the Elbel Court roadway is open for our buses to get in and out each afternoon.

When you arrive after 3:15 p.m., please use caution and be respectful of other vehicles.

We are addressing the traffic congestion and safety concerns that we all are experiencing at dismissal. We have a greater number of vehicles entering and exiting our campus at dismissal than we have had in the past, and we are working with the Albany Police Department and the city’s Traffic Safety Division to develop alternate plans.

In the meantime, we appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we work together to ensure safe and respectful traffic patterns at dismissal.

Please also observe these additional dismissal procedures that we have put in place this school year to improve, expedite and make dismissal safer.

  • CDTA, First Student and walkers will dismiss at 3:00 p.m.
  • Parent/guardian pick up will occur between 3:15-3:30 p.m. This shift is to ensure the departure of CDTA and First Student riders in a timely fashion.
  • Students who are getting picked up will be dismissed from their final period and sent to the auditorium for supervision until it’s time for them to leave.
  • Parents/guardians picking up students must remain in their cars as your child exits the building to find you. Please only use approved vehicle areas that do not block the movement of parent/staff traffic.
