Albany County recognizes Myers students

Two students who won awards from Albany County pose outside Myers Middle School

Two Myers students are among just five middle schoolers in Albany County who received 2023 Youth Recognition Awards.

Sarah Horne, a sixth grader, was chosen for the Lt. John Finn Community Service Award for her volunteer work, service and creating a positive impact within our school community. Finn was an Albany police Officer who was fatally shot in the line of duty in 2003.

Eh Thay Wah, also a sixth-grader, received the Ed Roche Outstanding Youth Award for upholding high standards of accountability, transparency and ethical behavior, acting as an agent for change while also encouraging growth and leadership in others.

Both Sarah and Eh Thay will be recognized at a ceremony on June 7. Their families, and members of the Myers leadership team, will also attend the event.

Initiated in 2003 to celebrate youth who would not ordinarily be recognized, the Youth Recognition Awards honors those who have overcome adversity, shown tremendous resiliency and growth, athletic achievement, artistic expression or demonstrated their citizenship and civic engagement through community service.

Lily Graber, a North Albany Middle School eighth grader, will receive the George Roe Athletic Acheivement Award at the same banquet.
