New Scotland leaders

NSES has had a fabulous week of school and we are finishing out the week and next Friday with our monthly PBIS/AVID assemblies. These assemblies are a time where we come together to celebrate our students' hard work for the month. Students will be recognized for being NSES leaders by following our 3 Bs (Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful) and displaying AVID qualities (qualities that make a successful person). Students will also get a shout-out for perfect attendance. Parents of students receiving an award will be invited to our assemblies starting next month. 

At each assembly, we will have a student spotlight. This is connected to our One School, One Book Read selections (“The Name Jar” and “My Name is Maria Isabel”). The student selected for the spotlight will be able to share about their name. 

In creating an inclusive community where students feel free to be themselves, we are celebrating each individual student. This will be the focus of our assemblies and also other work in the building. Our entire school is working on their “All About Me” posters. These posters will be decorating our hallways. Often we focus on what we see, but there is a lot more to a person than that. The All About Me posters are a chance for students to share about themselves. As we learn about each other, we create a school community that focuses on relationship-building, acceptance and respect. This embodies our school mission of creating a compassionate community of everyday leaders. 

Attendance matters

At NSES we want all of our students to feel a part of our school community. The first step for this to happen is that they need to be in school regularly. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. We are asking for your help to start building this habit now so children learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college. 

When absent, please notify the school office by telephone or email prior to the morning of the absence. As a follow up to any oral notification, provide a written (or emailed) excuse within five school days containing the date of the absence and the reason.  A doctor’s note verifying an absence is required after five consecutive days of absences. 

Some important times to remember include: 

• Breakfast: 8:40 a.m. (K-5 students only)
• Doors open: 8:55 a.m.
• Classes start: 9 a.m.
• Late: 9:05 a.m. and beyond
• Dismissal: 3:30 p.m.
