JOB FAIR SATURDAY!
Beginning next school year, North Albany Academy will no longer be an elementary school. The City School District of Albany is repurposing North Albany as a middle school as part of a broader initiative to address enrollment growth at Edmund J. O'Neal Middle School of Excellence. As a result, families of North Albany students currently in prekindergarten through grade 4 will need to attend a new elementary school for the 2019-20 school year.
All students currently in grade 5 will remain at North Albany for grades 6-8.
What this means for families
The district has developed a re-enrollment process for North Albany elementary families (pre-K through grade 4).
If you live in the North Albany neighborhood zone:
There are two options to select your child’s new school. If you would like to choose one of our eight neighborhood elementary schools, we have created an application to indicate your preferences.
This application must be completed by Friday, May 10.
Applications are available in the main office, and can also be completed electronically by following the link above. Families are also welcome to apply to any of our magnet programs.
If you do not complete the application or apply for our magnet lottery by May 10, the district will determine your child’s placement.
If you live outside the North Albany neighborhood zone
The district will automatically enroll your child in your zoned neighborhood school.
You do not need to take any action, unless you are interested in open enrollment or one of our magnet programs.
In the event there is no space to enroll your child at his or her zoned neighborhood school, the Office of the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Instruction will contact you to discuss the available options.

Follow this link to learn more about the Board of Education's overall plan to reduce enrollment at O’Neal Middle School for the next four years. These enrollment changes will be in place until the 2023-24 school year, when the district plans to open a new permanent middle school at North Albany. Voters will have the opportunity to consider that proposal -- Proposition #2 -- a along with the budget vote May 21.

In addition to neighborhood schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic opportunities for students, including four themed academies at Albany High School.
