Welcome, Assistant Principal Gallagher!

Portrait of Amelia Gallagher

The City School District of Albany's Board of Education has appointed Amelia Gallagher as the new assistant principal at Sheridan Preparatory Academy.

Gallagher will replace Alexander Santana, who was promoted earlier this year to serve as the district's elementary instructional supervisor for science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM. Santana will remain at Sheridan Prep through the end of the school year, and Gallagher will begin in her new role there on June 1.

Gallagher currently serves as an assistant principal at Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School. She has been in that role since 2021. During that time she also has served on the District Equity Team and as a culturally responsive education trainer.

Before joining the team at Myers, Gallagher served as the assistant principal at Delaware Community School for three years, which included serving as Delaware’s interim principal over the final months of the 2019-20 school year.

Prior to  joining the district in 2018, Gallagher served in administrative roles at Albany’s LaSalle School. Her early career experience included supervising special programs for Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES, after having spent nearly 15 years working in guidance as both a counselor and then director.

Gallagher earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University at Albany, and received her administrative certification from the former College of Saint Rose.
