Pickup, drop-off & traffic changes for student safety

Construction in and around TOAST has affected traffic, pickup and dropoff, and parking. Please note the reminders below about changes we’ve made with student safety in mind.

What’s new

  • Two-way street: The road into TOAST is now a two-way traffic loop that you enter from Delaware Avenue and that exits back onto Delaware Avenue.
  • Before school drop-off: Students in grades 1-6 who are dropped off in cars now must be dropped off behind school using the road off Delaware Avenue that runs alongside the Lincoln Park tennis courts behind TOAST. Please note that this is a one-way road from Delaware Avenue to MLK Drive.
  • After-school pickup: Students in grades 1-6 who are picked up in cars must be picked up behind school using the same one-way road off Delaware Avenue that runs alongside the Lincoln Park tennis courts and through to MLK Drive.
  • Entering and exiting through the back door: Students in grades 1-6 who are dropped off and picked up by car enter and exit TOAST through the back door to access our new pickup location near the Lincoln Park tennis courts.

What’s still the same

  • Prekindergarten and kindergarten dropoff and pickup continue in front of school. We have designated a specific zone for this purpose. Please follow the cones in this area and use caution.
  • Pickup and dropoff of students in any grade arriving after 8:30 a.m. and leaving before 1:30 p.m. will continue in front of school.
  • Buses continue to drop off all students in front of school.
  • Students in grades 1-6 who walk to and from school can enter through either the front or back door based on their walking route.

These changes will be in place until December 2022, when construction on the city's Beaver Creek Clean Water Project is scheduled to finish.

The Beaver Creek project will add new sewer infrastructure in Lincoln Park, significantly improving the water quality of the Hudson River. The project includes educational enhancements for TOAST, including covered outdoor classrooms, a nature-inspired play area, a meditation labyrinth and outdoor exercise space.
