Supporting community schools funding

A huge thank you to our education partners at NYSUT, United Federation of Teachers and United Community Schools. Together, they hosted an event at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science (TOAST) promoting the importance of community schools and urging New York State legislators to fully fund them.

TOAST is one of eight community schools in the school district. Thanks to state funding, community schools can provide a host of programs and opportunities to students and families before, during and after the school day. The backbone of a community school is its coordinator (Micaela Townsend at TOAST), who works with a range of community providers to provide services that are tailored to meet a school’s needs.

Thank you to Senator James Tedisco and others who came to TOAST to offer their support and learn about some of the programs state funding supports.
